Dallas Housing Authority's Opportunity Rising Foundation Receives Community-Wide Support for Educational Scholarships Supporting Low-Income Scholars

Opportunity Rising Foundation, a non-profit founded by the Dallas Housing Authority (DHA) that provides educational scholarships for DHA clients, announced a new donation today from GivingX100 and highlights its key supporters from the community.

GivingX100 is a Frisco-based group that raises money to support local North Texas charities. The goal of GivingX100 is to bring together at least 100 men from the local community to each donate at least $100 to a nominated non-profit, hence the name GivingX100. The result is not $100 for the selected organization, but $10,000 or more.

GivingX100 has donated $20,000 to the Opportunity Rising Foundation, which will go directly to fund educational scholarships. DHA's goal is to award 100 scholarships to its clients who are pursuing their education.

"Opportunity Rising was founded on the belief that education is key to ending poverty - a mission that GivingX100 is honored to support," says Tim Frost, founder of GivingX100. "DHA provides housing and supportive resources to more than 60,000 North Texans - the majority of which are families with school-aged children. We look forward to helping DHA and Opportunity Rising further their mission to power success through education."

"Seventy-one percent of our scholars are first-generation college students; seventy-six percent no longer receive government assistance; and 77 percent are currently employed," shares Troy Broussard, DHA president and chief executive officer. "We are extremely grateful for GivingX100's support of the Opportunity Rising Foundation's mission to help lift low-income families out of poverty."

The Opportunity Rising Foundation is funded by donations and does not utilize any federal funds. DHA and the foundation would also like to highlight the other community supporters who make each scholarship possible:
