Green Hills Software Conference Session at Arm TechCon

Title: Hack-proofing your C/C++ code
Presenter: Greg Davis, Director of Compiler Engineering
When: Tuesday, October 16 – 2:30 – 3:20pm
Synopsis: While 85% of embedded designs use C and C++, these languages are notorious for allowing unsafe code practices that give hackers a way to attack. This talk shows exactly how to keep your Internet-connected product safe by writing your code properly the first time. Well-proven tools and techniques can be used to augment any software-design paradigm, and to effectively hack-proof your code. Techniques include coding conventions, automatic run-time error checking, manual compile-time and run-time assertions, static analysis, and the most common mistakes to avoid.

Demonstrations in Green Hills booth #1035

Safe & Secure ECU Consolidation
These demonstrations showcase the trusted consolidationof multiple Integrated Cockpit functions, including in-vehicle infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. The safety-certified INTEGRITY® RTOS provides a trusted foundation for system designers to build a single scalable platform hosting guest operating systems while concurrently running one or more safety-critical applications.

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 for Automotive processor running a Qt digital instrument cluster as a native INTEGRITY application and virtual machine hosting Automotive Grade Linux running on top of INTEGRITY
  • NXP i.MX 8-QuadMax applications processor running a Crank digital instrument cluster as a native INTEGRITY application and Crank infotainment applications running on virtualized Linux

Medical Instrument Graphics Demo
This demonstration features an embedded UI development package from Crank Software deployed on the safety- and security-certified INTEGRITY RTOS and running on an NXP i.MX 8-QuadMax processor. This integration creates an ideal platform for quickly producing high-performance, rich 3D graphics for a variety of next-generation medical devices, including patient health monitors, infusion pumps, or robotic surgery systems.

Securing the Internet of Things
In collaboration with partners Qt and Clarinox, this demonstration showcases Bluetooth real-time sensor integration from Clarinox running on a Texas Instruments SensorTag device through a Qt-based human machine interface (HMI). The separation architecture of the Green Hills INTEGRITY RTOS assures freedom-from-interference.
