High Water Women Completes 14th Annual Backpack Drive

High Water Women, a leading philanthropic organization focused on financial literacy and initiatives for low-income children, completed its 14th annual Backpack Drive, delivering almost 13,000 fully-supplied backpacks to tristate area children in need. The drive is the culmination of a fundraising effort that started in March and raised more than $200,000.

Since the Backpack Drive began in 2005, HWW has provided backpacks to 137,300 children in need.

More than 1,500 donors and volunteers participated in this year's drive, which took place at more than twenty- five assembly/distribution locations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut in July and August. Many financial services and other companies supported the drive and participated in backpack assemblies including: Albourne, Allianz Global Investors, AXA, Barclays Bank, Brown Advisory, Corbin Capital Partners, Credit Suisse, Hunt Lane Capital, Institutional Investor, Jennison, Jenner & Block LLP, Kingdon Capital, KPMG, Mercer (CT office), Meredith Inc., MetLife, MorganStanley, One William Street, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, Pershing Square, Prudential Financial, Reed Smith, The Better Collection, Third Avenue Funds, and Westwood Partners.

Generous donations from the attendees of this year's Lipper Mutual Funds Awards annual dinner, held during the spring, were particularly important to the drive's success.

Karen Lanci, a High Water Women board member and chair of its Backpack Drive, noted "For the third year in a row, a significant portion of our funding has been provided by company sponsors who host Backpack Assembly events for their employees at their corporate offices."

More than thirty-five participating nonprofits and schools in the tristate area placed orders for the backpacks, with kindergarten, elementary and middle/high schools all receiving different supplies.

Recipient charities included: Andrus, The Child Center of NY, Children's Learning Center, Children's Village, DreamYard, Emmanuel Worship Center, Evangelical Temple, ExpandED Schools, Family & Children's Agency ASPIRE program, Forestdale, Friends of the Children, GEMS, Go Project, Good Shepherd Services, Hour Children, Hunts Point Alliance (News - Alert) for Children, Inspirica, Interfaith Food Pantry, Iris House, Jubilee Center of Hoboken, Marble Collegiate, New Alternatives for Children, Newark Church Backpack Drive, Partnership with Children, Public Prep, Southport Congregation, Storefront Academy, Tabernacle of Prayer, TEAK Fellowship, Wynona House, and Young Women's Leadership Network.
