PacStar® Announces Secure Wireless Command Post (TLS) for Classified Communications over Wi-Fi and LTE

PacStar today launched the PacStar Secure Wireless Command Post (SWCP TLS) - a fully integrated, expeditionary solution that provides warfighters with the groundbreaking ability to transmit classified information over wireless networks in the field using LTE (News - Alert)-enabled commercial smartphones and tablets. The solution will be unveiled and demonstrated at Modern Day Marine, which takes place September 25-27, 2018 in Quantico, VA.

Last year, PacStar launched its pioneering PacStar Secure Wireless Command Post (Wi-Fi) to provide high-speed wireless for mobile devices, at Wi-Fi distances, typically a few hundred feet. With the addition of LTE, PacStar now enables warfighter mobility at much greater distances, measured in thousands of feet or several miles from the cellular base station - much like consumers are able to roam using LTE for daily activity.

PacStar SWCP TLS delivers several key capabilities that enhance secure warfighter communications:

  • Secure classified communications everywhere: PacStar SWCP is packaged in a case small enough to meet airline carry-on requirements, but rugged enough to be mounted on military tactical communications vehicles - enabling classified mobile communications for a nearly unlimited array of use cases.
  • Two layers of encryption: Using IPsec VPN clients and servers, combined with Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption, SWCP TLS provides security for mobility that is eligible for use in networks up to Top Secret. This approach ensures security of transmitted infomation even if a single layer contains a flaw or vulnerability.
  • Seamlessly integrates technology from top vendors: PacStar combines its hardware, software, networking and cybersecurity technology with products from a wide array of leading enterprise-grade networking/communications OEMs, including Aruba Networks (a Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company), Perspecta Labs, Bivio Networks, Engage Black and Information Security Corporation.
  • Fully modular solution: The core of PacStar SWCP TLS is based on rugged, small form factor PacStar 400-Series modules. Packaged together in rugged transit cases, or mounted in vehicles, the modular solution provides flexibility to configure capabilities as organizations need, while both minimizing SWaP yet standing up to environmental extremes.

"Our new secure wireless capability unlocks more widespread use of mobile phone and tablet applications in the tactical communities, improving situational awareness for the warfighter," said Peggy Miller, chief executive officer, PacStar. "We're thrilled to offer this integrated combination of so many technologies from leading companies in order to deliver secure wireless in a turnkey solution."

Charlie Kawasaki, chief technical officer, PacStar adds: "This solution represents years of engineering investment by PacStar, combined with technical collaboration with the best in the networking industry."

PacStar will conduct live demonstrations of the PacStar SWCP TLS at our booth (#3231) at Modern Day Marines 2018.
