Federated Wireless at Forefront of Wireless Industry Charge Towards CBRS Commercialization

Building on strategic partnerships with Charter Communications, American Tower and ARRIS, Federated Wireless (News - Alert) continues to lead the wireless industry to CBRS commercialization. The Company today announced two important milestones in its charge to commercializing shared spectrum: the submission of its proposal for Initial Commercial Deployments on the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) spectrum band to the FCC, and the introduction of a new training program for Certified Professional Installers (CPI) of Citizens Broadband Radio Service Devices (CBSDs). Federated Wireless' proposal for Initial Commercial Deployments and new CPI Training Program remove the final barriers to CBRS commercialization and signal broad industry adoption nationwide in Q4 2018.

"Shared spectrum commercialization has begun, and at a greater scale and scope than anticipated at this stage. Businesses can now access shared spectrum to not only introduce new services and create new businesses models, but solve decades old challenges, such as improving wireless connectivity indoors and outdoors, and closing the digital divide," said Iyad Tarazi, President and CEO at Federated Wireless. "Today's announcements break down the last barriers to shared spectrum - from commercial enablement, to training, to the ongoing support required for success. We look forward to working with our partners and customers as we enter this transformative time for the wireless industry as a whole."

Initial Commercial Deployment Proposal with Significant Scale

Today, Federated Wireless showcased the Company's position as the industry's preferred partner for CBRS deployment, submitting a proposal for Initial Commercial Deployment to the FCC. The significant scale and scope of Federated Wireless' proposal demonstrates widespread adoption by leaders spanning the wireless ecosystem. Highlights from the proposal include:

  • Participation from 15 of the industry's leading wireless operators, cable operators, tower companies and Managed Service Providers (MSPs), including American Tower (News - Alert), ARRIS, Charter, and ExteNet Systems
  • Nationwide scale with nearly 16,000 deployment sites by Federated Wireless customers in 47 states and the District of Columbia
  • More than 80 rural Fixed Wireless carriers helping to close the digital divide
  • A broad set of use cases, including 5G, advanced LTE, wireless carrier and cable solutions, fixed and mobile networks, enterprise Private-LTE, and managed network services
  • Major iconic venue locations for education, travel, sports and entertainment
  • Commercial equipment from 15 participnts in the Federated Wireless Partner Program, including Airspan (News - Alert), Ericsson, Ruckus Networks and Telrad, integrated with our solution and ready for rapid deployment.

"CBRS is turning out to be a diverse sandbox, with participation by players in at least five different business models: mobile operators, MVNOs, neutral host players, Private-LTE, and fixed wireless access. To facilitate more innovation in multiple market sectors, it's great to see the scope and scale behind Federated Wireless' launch," said Joe Madden, Principal Analyst and President of Mobile Experts. "Compared with the initial small cell launches by mobile operators, this is gigantic."

Following more than five years of technical development dedicated to shared spectrum in the CBRS band, Federated Wireless is able to bring the benefits of interference free spectrum to a variety of customers, locations, use-cases and business models.

Federated Wireless Nationwide ESC (News - Alert) Network in 1Q 2019

Federated Wireless is also on track to deliver its dedicated nationwide ESC network in Q1 2019, allowing for full access to the entire 150 MHz of 3.5 GHz spectrum while delivering reliable 5 9's service. This advanced industry leading technology is built on five years of development and is in the deployment stage now - another industry first signifying Federated Wireless' unique focus on CBRS commercialization.

New CPI Training Program

The introduction of the new Federated Wireless CPI Training Program makes the Company the first and only Spectrum Access System (SAS (News - Alert)) Administrator to offer CPI training and certification services. The CPI Training Program addresses the FCC's mandate that all outdoor CBRS devices (CBSDs) be installed by a certified professional installer to ensure accurate SAS operations. The program modules and curriculum were reviewed and certified by the Wireless Innovation Forum (WinnForum) in accordance with FCC requirements.

The Federated Wireless CPI Training Program's online certification course and robust materials were developed with the experience gained from more than 50 industry trials. The program will enable installers to learn directly from CBRS industry pioneers with deep industry standards and SAS knowledge. Installers also benefit from the fact that Federated Wireless is partnered with nearly every major operator and CBSD provider, enabling the Company to provide in-depth insight into installation configuration, commissioning, and SAS provisioning, across the broadest set of devices.

Available at the end of October, when the FCC is anticipated to approve Initial Commercial Deployment proposals, the company's CPI Training Program removes the final barriers for businesses commercializing services on CBRS, rounding out Federated Wireless' end-to-end Spectrum Controller solution, which already includes the leading SAS product, the only ESC network expected to be fully deployed by Q1 2019, and the industry's only partner program.
