Two Bit Circus Micro-Amusement Park™ Opens In Downtown Los Angeles

Get ready to play, Los Angeles! Today, Two Bit Circus opens the doors of its Micro-Amusement Park to the public, creating wonder and excitement around the DTLA Arts District.

A brand new kind of social playspace, the World's first Micro-Amusement Park features the latest in immersive entertainment, multi-person virtual reality (and real virtualities), and a full carnival canteen of molecular mixology and inventive eats. In between gameplay, circus goers can enjoy original farm-to-circus food and beverage offerings, some concocted and served by Gearmo del Pouro, our robot bartender.

The park is free to enter and features different zones, including:

  • The Midway: Nostalgic carnival games of chance and skill, re-imagined with modern technology, and hosted by carnival barkers who engage you in friendly competition.
  • The Arcane Arcade: New-age, multiplayer digital games, together with old world pinball machines, and arcade cabinets of yesteryear... All with a dash of future-tech and circus zest.
  • Story Rooms: A superset of escape rooms, in which groups work together on a common goal - like piloting a spaceship, navigating a haunted river, or exploring a mineshaft.
  • The Arena: A zone showcasing the best in modern mixed reality. Multiplayer seated VR with haptic platforms, four-player standing VR, HTC (News - Alert) Vive Pro zones, and the world-renowned Birdly flying VR attraction. Here you can find realities for both solo and group gameplay.
  • Cabanas: The ultimate living room entertainment solution, where groups of friends (or strangers) are set up with an HTC Vive and a ton of games to choose from, together with food and beverage services.
  • Club 01: A 100-seat, interactive social theater where guests are seated at touchscreen tables and participate in everything from game shows and trivia to wine tasting and comedy.

*It's highly recommended that guests book reservations for Club 01, Story Rooms and Cabanas prior to arrival in order to secure their spots.*

The 38,000 square feet of immersive entertainment is supported by HP and HTC Vive and can host 500 - 700 guests. The Micro-Amusement Park is an enormous platform with a seemingly limitless collection of immersive experiences. After 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays, the park becomes 18+ and everything from the soundtrack to the game content can be changed. The fully networked park also has an API, which allows it to act as a launchpad for game developers and makers of all kinds. A back-of-house workshop is accessible to select community members, giving the park the capability to bring new entertainment concepts from prototype to exhibition.

In addition to all the more conspicuous immersive experiences, guests can explore underlying narratives called "meta games" by discovering clues throughout the park. With so many different things to experience, and content constantly being refreshed, it's nigh impossible to do everything in one visit, maybe even two or three.

"Some of the fondest memories of my youth took place at the Sherman Oaks Galleria arcade where my friends and I would get together after school," said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. "Two Bit Circus will open the doors for today's young Angelenos to create lasting memories of their own -- and glimpse the future of our city in the process."

"Everything, from the clothes you're wearing to the phone in your hand, is inspired by science," said Bill Nye, CEO of the Planetary Society. "I'm excited to be involved with Two Bit Circus. The construction of their Micro-Amusement Park and the platform they've created are exactly the types of things that will spark the remarkable new ideas that we need to launch new industries and advance society toward a better future."

"Two Bit Circus will be a welcomed addition to an incredibly vibrant and dynamic community in the Arts District - one with a decades-long history of cutting-edge art and artists," said Councilmember José Huizar. "For me, having experienced the magic, technological and creative wonder Two Bit Circus brings at our annual 'Night on Broadway' festival, I can tell all Angelenos they are in for a truly incredible, one-of-a-kind experience."
