ISARA Corp. to Present Quantum-Safe Readiness at 9th Annual Billington CyberSecurity Summit

WASHINGTON and WATERLOO, Ontario, Sept. 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ISARA Corp., the world’s leading provider of quantum-safe security solutions, will present the importance of crypto-agility and how organizations can prepare today for the looming threat quantum computing poses to encryption and security at the 9th Annual Billington CyberSecurity Summit on Sept. 6 in Washington, D.C.

“As awareness grows about the threat quantum computing presents to current encryption standards, it's vitally important to demonstrate how quantum-safe solutions can be integrated seamlessly into existing computer platforms and cloud infrastructures,” said Paul Lucier, ISARA vice president of sales and business development and a panelist on Billington’s “Forecasting the Emerging Cyber Threat Landscape” panel. “This is no longer a theoretical threat and the time is now to prepare for the advent of large-scale quantum computers. Luckily, it’s not an either-or proposition because crypto-agility gives enterprises and governments the ability to quickly react to changes in cryptography and crypto-agile certificates allow both classical and quantum-safe algorithms to be used at the same time.”

Using the ISARA Radiate™ Security Solution Suite, security solution providers and OEMs serving government and large enterprises are able to create quantum-safe products and systems faster and cost-effectively, allowing for a seamless transition of existing networks and systems to a quantum-safe environment. The ISARA team will be meeting with event attendees at booth #1 at the Billington CyberSecurity Summit, the leading and most trusted event in federal cybersecurity.

The dawning age of quantum computing will require new methods of protecting data and communications. Quantum computers use quantum mechanics to process information differently than classical digital computers – allowing them to tackle significantly more complex calculations. For example, a large-scale quantum computer is expected to be able to break current public-key encryption methods with relative ease. While no one is yet certain when quantum computers will become operational, there is a growing consensus worldwide that it will occur within the next five to 15 years. In the meantime, adopting crypto-agile practices allow organizations to begin the migration to quantum-safe cryptography without compromising current security needs for classical encryption. Crypto-agile certificates like those developed by ISARA can accommodate multiple public-key algorithms as systems are upgraded while maintaining backward compatibility. Traditional certificates can use only a single algorithm.

“To protect against harvest and decrypt attacks, organizations can – and should – take the first steps toward making their systems quantum-safe now – particularly those agencies and institutions that manage extremely sensitive data such as financial records or state secrets,” Lucier said. “Among the steps they can take today is implementing meaningful upgrades to agile quantum-safe technologies without affecting their current encryption and certifications.”

Lucier will also take part in a panel with other cybersecurity experts examining the emerging threats posed by quantum computing as well as the Internet of Things and ubiquitous mobile communications.
