International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) Announces Winners of 2018 Distinguished Peer Awards and New Co-Chair for ILTACON 2019


The International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) announced the winners of their annual Distinguished Peer Awards Tuesday evening in conjunction with their annual educational conference ILTACON 2018.

Jackson Lewis PC was named Innovative Firm of the Year, with Shawn Curran of Freshfields named Innovative IT Professional of the Year. ILTA and the judging panel were pleased with the breadth and diversity of nominees across categories. In its ninth year of the annual Distinguished Peer Awards program, the awards program recognizes premiership and provides a forum for peer-nominated, peer-judged innovation in technology and in leadership.

Distinguished Peer Award Winners

Individual Awards: Individuals from ILTA law firms, law departments and business partners are recognized for demonstrating exceptional accomplishments and leadership within their organizations. 2018 award recipients include:

  • Knowledge Management Professional of the Year: Shengshi Zhao of Clayton Utz
  • Litigation Support Professional of the Year: David Hasman of Bricker & Eckler
  • Security Professional of the Year: William Kyrouz of Ropes & Gray
  • Technology Training or Support Professional of the Year: Jennifer Zanieski of Troutman Sanders
  • Innovative IT Professional of the Year: Shawn Curran of Freshfields
  • Leadership Award: Kate Cain of Sidley & Austin LLP
  • Young Professional Award: Shengshi Zhao of Clayton Utz
  • Innovaive Thought Leader of the Year: Arup Das, Alphaserve Technologies
  • Innovative Consultant of the Year: OnGuard Consulting Team, Traveling Coaches



Organization Awards: Individual and team excellence within ILTA member law firms, law departments and business partners are recognized by the organization awards. 2018 award recipients include:

  • Innovative Law Firm of the Year: Jackson Lewis P.C.
  • Innovative Law Department of the Year: Sanofi
  • Innovative Project of the Year - External/Client-Facing: Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP
  • Innovative Project of the Year - Internal/Firm-Facing: McInnes Cooper
  • Innovative Solution Provider of the Year: iManage

Both the finalists and recipients of the awards who were in attendance were recognized and celebrated at the event.


At today's Annual Member Meeting, ILTA also announced the new Co-Chair for ILTACON 2019, Julie Brown, Litigation Technology Executive Manager at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP. Julie has worked in legal technology for more than 30 years, has a paralegal degree and has worked in both a corporate law department and law firm environments. She is a Certified E-Discovery Specialist. In her run up to ILTACON 2019, Julie has been a member and a volunteer since 2006, serving on various volunteer positions such as a member liaison, litigation support peer group member, ILTA Statewide Litigation Support Meeting Chair, and also was awarded the Peer Award Litigation Support Professional of the Year in 2011. Julie has been a ILTACON Conference Committee volunteer since 2012. Julie joins the 2018 Conference Co-Chair, David Hobbie, Director of Knowledge Management (Litigation), at Goodwin, to serve with him for her first of a two year term as the ILTACON Conference Co-Chair.
