Summit Business Technologies Expands MSSP Practice

Maryland company integrates IT security and security awareness program to reduce “human hacking” MILLERSVILLE, MD, July 26, 2017—Summit Business Technologies, a mid-sized MSP and MSSP, today announced it has met rigorous third-party requirements to expand its Managed Security Services Practice (MSSP). The MSSP designation demonstrates Summit’s broad expertise and capabilities to protect its customers from ever evolving cybersecurity threats.

Summit has made significant investments in security training, certifications, facilities and technologies to meet external validation requirements.

--Summit engineers earned advanced certifications from Sonicwall, an industry leader in network security.

--The company has a 24/7 Security Operations Center (SOC) to monitor, analyze and detect suspicious activity on networks, servers, websites and other endpoints.

--Summit is the region’s only MSSP to integrate a comprehensive, fully managed security awareness component to reduce the risk of phishing and online scams that technology cannot. The security awareness service is a separate business line also being sold through MSPs and cybersecurity resellers.

“Organizations need to ask their managed services providers what they are doing to protect them from a cyberattack,” said CEO Mike Cohn. “Providers without the expertise or 360-degree security controls to monitor, detect, mitigate and respond to cyberattacks are not in a position to prevent them.” To simplify delivery of security services, Summit also is introducing a Security Suite of tools integrated to provide a unified, comprehensive defense against cyberattacks. The technologies enable: --Detection of suspicious activity for advanced threat protection --Inspection of encrypted traffic to Identify hidden threats --Multifactor authentication --Blocking of malicious URLs, IP addresses and files before connections or downloads --Ability to remotely wipe devices and remove user access to data --Continuous security status monitoring and management for better incident detection, investigation and remediation --IT policies and procedures to ensure proper use of IT assets and prevent security lapses --Security awareness education to equip employees to recognize and avoid cyber threats “These security solutions were specifically selected to build an organization’s cyber defenses from every point of entry, layer by layer” said Leo Minegishi, Director of Information Security. “While nothing can assure absolute security, this marriage of technical tools and behavioral techniques dramatically reduces the likelihood of an intrusion.” ### Founded in 1988, Summit Business Technologies is a Managed IT Services Provider (MSP) and Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) that plans, supports, maintains and secures the IT infrastructure for hundreds of organizations in MD, DC and VA. Summit serves as a virtual CIO for organizations that need help planning and budgeting for technology, evaluating and purchasing hardware, installing and integrating software, and providing IT support.
