Atul Nishar Takes Over as the New President of TiE Mumbai

The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Mumbai announces Atul Nishar as the President of TiE Mumbai from July 2018.

Over the past few years, TiE Mumbai has played a significant role in promoting, mentoring, helping and funding startups in this region. It has developed focus on specific Special Interest Groups - FinTech, Lifestyle, Media & Entertainment, and Healthcare, along with its traditional Technology focus. TiE Mumbai represents over 2500 startups in the Greater Mumbai Region. It has successfully connected and mentored over 2000 entrepreneurs and startups over the last few years, and over 1000 startups have been successfully connected to investors. TiE Mumbai has also conducted over 120 events, workshops and knowledge sessions.

Commenting on his election, Mr. Atul Nishar said, "I am very excited about this new role. At the newly constituted board, we have taken up the challenge to create the right ecosystem to make Mumbai the new Startup Capital of India. To enable this, we will work with various stakeholders especially the government and help in policy forming, thereby playing a significant role in the mission of Startup India."

In order to create the right ecosystem, TiE Mumbai will engage very actively with:

- State government and its various departments

- Regulators including RBI, SEBI and stock exchanges

- Investing Community like the private equity funds, venture capital funds, family offices, angel investors and angel networks

- Educational bodies like IIT, engineering colleges and management schools

- Corporates

Going forward TiE Mumbai would act as a bridge, connecting all Entrepreneurs across India to the Investing Community and the Regulators.

TiE Mumbai is currently engaged with SEBI and Stok Exchanges to have the right platform for the startups to get listed and raise funds. This will also bring greater governance and discipline in the functioning of startups, thereby, enhancing the branding and image of the startups in India. The existing MSME listing platform, inspite of initial skepticism proved to be a great success with approximately 400 Companies getting listed. TiE Mumbai is confident of creating a similar success story with startups.



TiE Mumbai will act as a knowledge provider to Engineering Colleges and Corporates to setup or expand incubation centers to create the next wave of Entrepreneurs.

Atul Nishar, the Founder & Chairman of Hexaware Technologies, is a well-known IT leader in India who has contributed in promoting Indian software capabilities across the globe. He has also successfully promoted and managed IT companies that have become global enterprises. Under his leadership, Hexaware Technologies has grown into a global software and BPO services corporation, with a market cap of US$ 2 billion.

A serial entrepreneur by nature, Atul founded Aptech Limited, a computer education company, in 1985. He grew Aptech into a leading global IT training outfit with over 1000 centers across 40 countries. The highly successful China joint venture was set up by Aptech under his headship.

He is strongly associated with several government and trade bodies that play an instrumental role in the development of India's IT Sector. An active and known figure of the Indian IT industry, he was the Chairman of National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) in 2000 and he continues to be on the executive council of NASSCOM.

In addition to chairing the Information Technology Committee (2001-2002), Nishar also served as the member of the national executive committee of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 2000 and as a member of the steering committee of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

He has published several articles on information technology in leading Indian publications and has been a prominent speaker at conferences organized by Harvard Business School, NASSCOM, TiE, World Congress on Information Technology, the US Consulate, FICCI, and CII.
