Idaho Virtual Academy Celebrates Its 10th Graduating Class


Idaho Virtual Academy (IDVA), a statewide online public charter school, will celebrate the Class of 2018 - the school's 10th graduating class - with three in-person graduation ceremonies across the state.

More than a third of this year's graduating class will graduate with honors. Lauren Moon will serve as the valedictorian of the Class of 2018 and will speak at the Northern Idaho graduation at the Kroc Center in Coeur d'Alene on June 24. Moon will also graduate with her associate degree thanks to dual credit opportunities, and she plans to attend Willamette University in the fall.

Aaron "Cord" Myler is IDVA's salutatorian and will speak at the school's Southeastern Idaho graduation at Taylorview Middle School in Idaho Falls on June 21. Myler will study engineering at Utah State University on a $56,000 Legacy Scholarship. Myler has been offered $110,000 in scholarships from five different universities.

Ezra Kennedy, an honors student, will serve as the student speaker at IDVA's Southern Idaho graduation at Northwest Nazarene University's Brandt Center in Nampa on June 23. Kennedy also plans to study engineering at Utah State on a full-ride presidential scholarship.

Collectively, IDVA's 183 graduates have been ofered more than $604,000 in college scholarships, with more than 60 percent of the class planning to attend college. Students report that they have been accepted to colleges and universities across the country, including Boise State University, Idaho State University, University of Idaho, University of Utah, University of Washington, Washington State University, University of Denver, Montana State University, University of Northern Iowa, University of Hawaii at Manoa, University of New York-Prague, Jagieollonian University in Poland, The Julliard School and College of Western Idaho, among others. In addition, six students intend to enlist in the military.



"Graduation is a wonderful time to celebrate our students' hard work and many accomplishments," said IDVA head of school Kelly Edginton. "The Class of 2018 is an especially impressive group and we can't wait to see what the future holds for them."

IDVA provides students statewide in kindergarten through 12th grade with a learning environment that works for them. The range of classes, extracurricular activities and supportive community give students of all abilities and backgrounds the chance to thrive.
