Healthfirst Named Finalist for 2018 Heritage Healthcare Innovation Awards

Healthfirst, the largest not-for-profit health insurance company in New York City, has been named one of 26 finalists for the 2018 Heritage Healthcare Innovation Awards, an annual recognition program that spotlights organizations and leaders who have vastly improved access to quality, affordable healthcare. The award program is presented by Heritage Provider Network (HPN), one of the nation's leading physician-led managed care organizations, and Crain's Custom, a division of Crain's New York Business. Winners will be revealed at a private luncheon on May 21.

"For 25 years Healthfirst has blazed a trail, challenging the conventional relationship between insurers and providers by aligning tightly though payment models, quality goals, and working relationships," said Pat Wang, our President and CEO. "This nomination is one of many signs that we are excelling in an incredibly complex and shifting healthcare environment while staying true to our mission of serving our members and our communities."

Healthfirst's unique model has brought together leading medical centers, community providers, and our health plan in a way that was unconventional in 1993, but value-based healthcare now has become a trend that is transforming care nationwide.

<> This is the third year that Crain's and the Heritage Provider Network have sponsored the 2018 Heritage Healthcare Innovation Awards. The awards fall into five categories, and Healthfirst is one of five nominees--and the only health plan-for the Organizational Leadership Award that spotlights an "organization that has fundamentally changed how healthcare is delivered. This organization has created, or championed new ways of thinking and doing, uniting diverse constituencies to work together." Other nominees in this category include Mount Sinai Health System, Weill Cornell Community Clinic, Coordinated Behavioral Care, and Essen Health Care.
