Packet Design Gains Momentum in Expediting Self-Driving Networks

Packet Design's (News - Alert) ability to effect self-driving networks is accelerating in 2018, with 67 percent year-over-year growth in bookings for the first quarter ended March 31.

As Packet Design CTO Cengiz Alaettinoglu explained last month at the MPLS + SDN + NFV World Congress and AI Net conference, a self-driving network can take corrective action when network conditions deteriorate - without human intervention or with minimal operator supervision. Packet Design uniquely provides the real-time telemetry and analytics required for this automation. Service provider customers around the world are already using its SDN solutions in production networks.

Self-Driving Network Customer Examples:

Automating recovery from network failures in minutes: XL Axiata, one of Indonesia's leading telecommunications service providers, is using the Packet Design Explorer SDN Platform to automatically reroute traffic when subterranean or subsea fiber links are compromised. This takes minutes versus what would normally take several hours or days.

Automating technology migrations saves six months to one year: A large Noth American MSO used the Packet Design Explorer Suite's REST APIs to migrate thousands of business customers safely from older routers to newer ones. The analytics-driven automation enabled them to complete this project in just a few weeks. Ordinarily, it would have taken six to 12 months via manual methods.

Proactive rerouting of traffic before links fail: A European mobile operator implemented the Packet Design Explorer Suite in a proof of concept to detect optical link issues and calculate and provision alternate paths to avoid service disruption.

Automating customer requests: A multinational telecom giant uses the Packet Design Explorer Suite to determine the best path for customer service orders. For example, when a customer needs an increase in bandwidth between two sites, the Explorer Suite calculates the optimum path to ensure that other services are not impacted, and facilitates the provisioning.

"Many of our customers are early adopters, but even those who aren't know that they cannot continue to run their complex, multiservice networks without automation. This is why they are increasingly looking to Packet Design technology to help them realize the benefits of real-time, analytics-driven automation while managing their legacy networks," said Scott Sherwood, Packet Design CEO. "With intelligent automation, our customers can activate services more quickly and realize revenue faster while delivering higher quality services with lower operating costs."

In a recent TechValidate survey commissioned by Packet Design, nearly 90 percent cite Packet Design's real-time telemetry, analytics, and automation technology as critical to their SDN transitions. Overall, 95 percent of customers said they are satisfied to extremely satisfied with their Packet Design investment and once again, they rate the company's support as best in class.

Packet Design released the latest version of the Explorer Suite in March, which includes advanced BGP performance analytics to help network operators make more informed BGP peering decisions and improve troubleshooting. Pipeline Publishing recently named the Packet Design Explorer SDN Platform a Finalist for its Innovations in Network Technology award. Winners will be announced May 14 in Nice, France.
