Cumulus Networks Announces Early Access of Cumulus Linux for Voyager with ADVAOFC, The Optical Networking and Communication Conference & Exhibition - Cumulus Networks, the leaders in building open, modern, and scalable networks, announced at OFC, The Optical Networking and Communication Conference & Exhibition today that Cumulus Linux is now available for early access on Voyager through partner ADVA (News - Alert), and it will be generally available in mid-June. This announcement builds on Cumulus Networks' collaboration through the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) on Voyager, announced in November at TIP Summit. Trials of Cumulus Linux for Voyager will start with customers including Vodafone; NYSERNet and Internet2, non-profit research and education networks in the U.S.; GRnet, a national research and education network in Greece; and CESNET, developer and operator of national e-infrastructure for science, research, development and education in Czech Republic. Voyager, which Facebook (News - Alert) contributed to TIP, is the industry's first open packet-optical transport system, combining dense wavelength multiplexing (DWDM) technology with switching and routing functionality. It addresses operator needs for scalable, cost-effective backhaul infrastructure in support of increasing global internet usage and bandwidth-intensive applications like video, virtual reality, scientific research, and machine learning. Cumulus provides interfaces for programmability, automation and cost-efficiency as well as offers a L2/L3 stack and an open Linux model that gives operators deep, fabric-wide visibility. In the marriage of IP and Optical, Cumulus Linux's routing protocol stack, VXLAN, and EVPN help customers build cost-effective, high-performance long haul systems. Because Voyager solves challenges in metro and long-haul fiber optic transport networks, the collaboration opens up a market for Cumulus outside of just the data center to that of Data Center Interconnect (DCI). More than 1,000 customers, including over a third of the Fortune 50, use Cumulus Networks technology to enable web-scale networking in their data centers. Supporting quotes:
