Merchants can now accept the Push Mode of UnionPay QR Code payment without any modifications

MACAU, Nov. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- UnionPay International announced today that the UnionPay QR Code payment is available at the Macau Food Festival. It is the first time that the Push Mode of UnionPay QR Code (customer uses their mobile App to scan the QR code presented by the merchant to initiate the payment) is launched outside mainland China.

The 17th Macau Food Festival will be held from November 10 to 26, with more than 150 participating merchants. Customers may tap and pay at participating merchants' POS terminals with the BOC Food Festival E-Wallet Card, or UnionPay credit cards with the "QuickPass" signage. Cardholders from mainland China may pay with UnionPay QR Code.

Direct acceptance of the Push Mode UnionPay QR Code without modifications

UnionPay QR Code payment offers a number of solutions, among them are the Push Mode (customer uses their mobile App to scan the QR code presented by the merchant to initiate the payment) and the Pull Mode (merchants use QR code reader to scan the QR code in customer's App to initiate the payment). The Push Mode can be easily accepted through direct connection to UnionPay International Merchant Service Platform. Merchats and acquirers may get access to the Platform on various mobile devices and complete registration, and directly accepted the Push Mode QR Code without any modifications.

Previously, merchants in Hong Kong and Singapore have taken the lead in accepting the Pull Mode of UnionPay QR Code. Merchants in Hong Kong have also realized the combination of payment code with discount e-coupon of U Plan, UnionPay International's cross-border marketing platform. Then, with just one scanning, customers are able to complete payment and enjoy instant discount.

UnionPay innovative payment products expanding rapidly worldwide

UnionPay QR Code payment will be launched in markets often visited by Chinese tourists, including Thailand, Indonesia and Australia. In Southeast Asia in particular, UnionPay International is strengthening its collaboration with the local institutions to build more card-using scenarios in public transport, hospital, social insurance and educational institutions.

Over the past few years, UnionPay International is providing diverse mobile payment solutions to accelerate the expansion of its innovative products. Besides QR Code payment, UnionPay is also offering Mobile QuickPass, which enable cardholders to pay by tapping their mobile phones. As of the third quarter of this year, UnionPay mobile QuickPass is accepted at more than 600,000 POS terminals outside mainland China, covering over 10 countries and regions such as Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, Canada and Russia. During the Chinese National Day Holiday this year, the transaction number of UnionPay Mobile QuickPass outside mainland China increased by 100%.

Macau is one of the "demonstration zones" of UnionPay innovative business, and UnionPay has become the most widely used international payment brand in terms of mobile payment. In Macau, 90% of merchants accepting contactless payment accept UnionPay Mobile QuickPass. These include convenience stores, restaurants, parking lots, drug stores, public services and public utilities.
