FreshBooks Named to the 2017 List of Best Workplaces in Technology

TORONTO, Oct. 3, 2017 /CNW/ - FreshBooks, the #1 accounting software in the cloud designed exclusively for self-employed professionals and their teams, was today recognized as one of the Best Workplaces in Technology by Great Place to Work Canada (GPTW).

FreshBooks (CNW Group/FreshBooks)

The Great Place to Work Institute®, as a global network, focuses on creating and showcasing high-trust workplace cultures across more than 50 countries. Companies are evaluated based on their culture, values and practices, with two-thirds of the total score being calculated from an anonymous survey completed by employees. The remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organization's culture and people programs.

Along with an overall annual ranking, GPTW also recognizes best workplaces in a series of categorical lists. This year, FreshBooks was recognized fourth best workplace in Canada on the overall GPTW list, and also recognized on three categorical lists: best workplaces for women, best workplaces for millennials, and today, best workplaces in technology. To be eligible for this list, organizations must be Great Plce to Work Certified in the past year, have a minimum of 50 employees and work primarily in the Technology industry. The best of list is based on the overall Trust Index score of eligible organizations.

"The world isn't built for self-employed professionals, so FreshBooks is on a mission to reshape it," says Mike McDerment, co-founder and CEO, FreshBooks. "I believe smart and talented people want to have real impact with their work, and be part of building something meaningful. When people are given the space to experiment with programs and ideas, their desire to learn overrides their fear of failure."

"Every day my team and I get to roll up our sleeves to tackle challenging projects together," says Ana Lopez, Strategy Analyst at FreshBooks. "When we get to see those contributions come to life and help millions of self-employed people run their businesses, it's a great feeling."

In February 2016, McDerment announced the company's plans to deliver an all new FreshBooks. Following the September, 2016 launch, Forbes reported on the innovative and unconventional way the company had rebuilt its software from the ground up, even launching a secret company in market called BillSpring to enable the product team to test and learn with real customers without compromising the FreshBooks brand.

In July 2017, FreshBooks announced it had raised $43 million in Series B funding, led by existing investor Georgian Partners, with participation from previous investors Accomplice and Oak Partners. Along with the funding, Georgina Partners managing partner Simon Chong is joining the company's board of directors.
