HCM Goes Back to Basics as Core Applications Deliver 90% of Value Nucleus Research Value Matrix Finds

The latest Nucleus Research Technology Value Matrix for Human Capital Management (HCM) shows a new direction for vendors to refocus on core features as opposed to integrating with other enterprise applications. The research finds that 90 percent of value garnered from new offerings focuses on central HCM functionality, beginning with payroll. Other areas such as time and attendance, scheduling benefits administration and core HR are also essential components of leading HCM vendor offerings.

Leaders in the value matrix include Ceridian, Infor, Oracle (News - Alert) HCM Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors, SumTotal Systems, Ultimate Software and Workday.

Integration with other enterprise applications continues, particularly in the back office, but vendors are now concentrating efforts on natively built HCM features to differentiate and deliver more value to customers.

"Successful vendors in this year's Value Matrix are approachig HCM with aggressive product roadmaps, natively developed functionality around time and attendance, and learning-based performance management. Vendors that are strongest at the epicenter are strongest in HCM altogether, and this year's report reflects this reality," said Brent Skinner, principal analyst at Nucleus Research.

The Value Matrix evaluates HCM market vendors based on their product usability and functionality, based on the value that customers realize from the capabilities of the product. Businesses can quickly evaluate which HCM solutions will deliver the most value for them based on usability and functionality needs.
