Lynx Announces OCF-Compliant Smart Home Hub Solution

Lynx Technology today announced Q4 availability of Lynx MiND™. Lynx MiND is an OCF-compliant smart home solution, and is based on the IoTivity framework. Lynx MiND, which includes a rules engine, will enable a gateway, NAS, wireless router or STB to be transformed into a smart home hub. Lynx also announced the Lynx ODM Channel Program, to help ODMs maximize their success in providing smart home solutions to the market.

Lynx MiND (Managing Intelligent Networked Devices) will help Device Manufacturers and Service Providers establish a business in the smart home market, differentiate their products to increase unit sales and gross margins, and introduce innovative business models to increase and diversify their revenue streams.

"Over 26% of U.S. broadband households currently own a smart home device and 442 million connected devices will be sold in the U.S. by 2020," according to Brad Russell, senior analyst with Parks Associates (News - Alert). "Solutins that enable wide-ranging interoperability are best positioned to succeed." Lynx MiND is OCF (Open Connectivity Foundation)-compliant and based on the IoTivity framework. Once embedded with the Lynx MiND Engine - a gateway, NAS, wireless router or STB will function as a smart home hub that will interoperate with other OCF-certified devices (e.g. thermostats, lights, locks, cameras), and has the capability to provide a bridge to devices on other smart home ecosystems (e.g. Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread).

Lynx MiND delivers critical smart home hub functions such as: device interoperability, device discovery, device control, scene creation, event-driven rules and remote access. Through Lynx MiND, Device Manufacturer and Service Provider end users can easily create automated scenes, such as Wake Up, Go To Bed, Leaving Home and Coming Home. For example, a Wake Up scene might turn on the bedroom light, turn up the thermostat, start the coffee maker and play music on the bedroom connected speaker - even if these devices are not made by the same manufacturer.

The Lynx ODM Channel Program will offer benefits to ODMs to help them market Lynx MiND worldwide. Benefits include: special ODM pricing, OCF device certification support, prototype development support, Lynx MiND licenses and maintenance & support.

Lynx MiND will be available in Q4 of 2017. Lynx is a member of OCF, the IoTivity Steering Group and the Planning Function Leader for IoTivity.
