Interview Summary

General Pervez Musharraf: Pakistan is losing out on the diplomatic front because of Panama Leaks.

In an iterview recorded just days prior to the Panama verdict against Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Former Pakistan President, General Pervez Musharraf has criticized Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his involvement in the Panama Leaks. He has said that Pakistan is losing out on the diplomatic front, internationally.

Talking on a range of issues, Musharraf said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is best placed to solve the Kashmir issue given his international standing and domestic mandate. In an exclusive interview to WION he spoke on a range of issues including terrorism in Pakistan and India-Pakistan relations.

On his return to Pakistan, he said that he is exploring options to do so because a third political force is needed. He said he does not want to be the PM but would want to advise the government. On the likely support that he could get from the Army, he said he expects the Army to stand by him.

General Musharraf asked the U.S not to link terrorism to Islam, saying, "That is big folly. Terrorism has no religion. Islamophobia... if its Muslim. It's Islamic... but if its Christian it's not Christian... it's that the man is psychologically deranged... he is a psychic case... so why is it Islam when the person who has done it is a Muslim?"

He dismissed accusations of human rights violations in Balochistan, saying these were concocted by India and accused Delhi of meddling in Pakistan's internal affairs. He said, "You are assisting separatists who are in the minority. You are helping them internationally to project this."

When asked about his life in exile in Dubai, he said he feels cut off but keeps in touch with developments back home and travels a lot, which keeps him busy.
