AppConfig Community Annual Report Showcases Strong Membership Growth

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Last year, leading EMM providers joined forces to launch the AppConfig Community to establish a common approach for app configuration and security based on native operating system frameworks in Android and iOS. The Community simplified app development for developers and app deployment for IT organizations to accelerate the adoption of transformational business apps in the enterprise.

One year after launch, the AppConfig Community membership base has grown dramatically:

  • From 60 to 90 Independent Software Vendors (ISVs)
  • From 4 to 19 EMM providers
  • From 160 to over 1,400 individual developers
  • From 1 to 2 operating systems (iOS at launch, with Android added in June 2016)

These metrics and others were detailed in the AppConfig Community Annual Report webcast. The webcast will be archived at https://www.appconfig.org/resources/

"The AppConfig Community has brought together many members of the EMM industry to drive developer awareness about the power of native OS frameworks for app configuration and security," said Nick McQuire, Vice President, Enterprise Research, CS Insight. "The momentum of the Community since its founding in 2016 is a testament to the value of this open approach for both ISVs and IT organizations."

The benefit of using the native OS frameworks of Android and iOS for app configuration and security is that those frameworks are consistent across EMM solutions and apps instead of proprietary to a specific EMM or ISV. Proprietary frameworks remain complementary to this approach for certain security use cases. Native frameworks simplify development for ISVs, who can use one approach across EMM solutions, rather than create separate apps for each. This also simplifies deployment for IT organizations, who can use one approach across the apps they deploy to their end users, rather than separate approaches for each ISV. Finally, the real winners are the end users, who can enjoy a seamless out-of-the-box experience for the apps that help them get their work done.

ISV and developer momentum continues
ISV membership has grown from 60 to 90 organizations and the number of individual developers has grown from 160 to over 1,400. The full membership list is available at www.appconfig.org/members.
