LightPointe's 60 GHz Wireless Bridge is Deployed by Porsche Informatik for Fast and Reliable Data Communications Between Buildings

SAN DIEGO and SALZBURG, Austria, March 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- LightPointe, a manufacturer of millimeter wave point-to-point radios and laser bridges used for ultra high capacity building to building data network connectivity, security camera backhaul, and wireless backhaul for service providers, announced that Porsche Informatik, the IT company owned by Porsche Holding Salzburg and part of Volkswagen AG, successfully deployed the company's 60 GHz wireless bridge. The AireLink 60 was installed to wirelessly connect buildings from one office building to another, and avoid the costs and permits which would have been required to trench for fiber cable across a busy street.

"It is a testament to LightPointe's engineers that a prestigious information technology company such as Porsche Informatik would evaluate both wired and wireless solutions, then select LightPointe's AireLink 60 radio bridge," said Michael Schulz, Director of Sales for LightPointe's Europe and Middle Eat operations. "Porsche Informatik is respected worldwide for their IT expertise, and we are honored that the company's facility in Austria chose a LightPointe solution for their own business operations, which required fast and reliable data transmission between buildings."

Porsche Informatik provides IT software and services to many of the world's leading automotive companies, including Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, and others. The company's Salzburg, Austria location includes several buildings requiring LAN connectivity for its engineers and other personnel.

"We are extremely pleased with both the quality of LightPointe's wireless bridge and the reliability achieved connecting our buildings in Austria," said Gottfried Atzenhofer, the system engineer responsible for the deployment by Porsche Informatik in Austria. "As a leading developer of software for the automotive industry, our engineers often create large files which require Gigabit capacity transmission, and absolute data security. LightPointe's 60 GHz radio was chosen for its speed, excellent protection from data eavesdropping, and its nine levels of modulation which automatically optimizes the wireless bridge for maximum performance under all conditions."
