Emergency Management among Key Topics In Boston-Area IEEE Homeland Security SymposiumWASHINGTON, March 20, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The IEEE Boston Section has since shortly after 9/11 sought to improve the security of our nation. Section leaders have continuously stressed to homeland security officials the importance of close collaboration.
Kay C. Goss, an internationally recognized expert on emergency management and resiliency, will discuss the key to working together at the upcoming IEEE International Symposium on Technologies for Homeland Security (HST '17). www.ieee-hst.org "Emergency management is a profession that requires collaboration," Goss said. HST '17 will assemble top industry, academic, government and business leaders in the Boston suburb of Waltham, Mass., on 25-26 April. Goss and Dr. Melissa Flagg, a former Defense Department official and CEO of Flagg Consulting, are the opening keynote speakers. Goss founded World Disaster Management in 2012. t is designed to help spur the growth of the emergency management profession. In the United States, it supports FEMA in preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery. Internationally, Goss has worked on projects in South Africa, Northern Ireland and Turkey. Her work with the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management at Istanbul Technical University began in 1999. "[Turkey] had two really severe earthquakes [that year]," Goss said.
