Huawei's Continuing T-SDN Innovation Shines at OFC 2016
ANAHEIM, Calif., March 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei has presented cutting-edge technologies and innovative applications in the optical communication field at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition (OFC) 2016.
One of the highlights is its Transport-software-defined networking (T-SDN). The innovative T-SDN applications mainly focus on the application and control layers. Application layer: Huawei demonstrated a bandwidth on demand (BoD) solution for enterprise leased line and Data Center Interconnect (DCI) scenarios, and launched a Transport Innovation Platform (TIP). The TIP is a new service innovation platform built on a T-SDN controller. This platform converges ICT programming capabilities in the northbound of the controller by designing and encapsulating bottom-layer interfaces and basic programming capabilities and by introduces a transport service engine. It presents the convergence in a graphical and modular manner. The TIP will greatly reduce barriers to programming innovation, so that operators or third parties can implement new services and agilely design, develop, deploy, and maintain customized transport services. In addition, as an open innovation platform, the TIP allows the import of third-party components and service templates, encouraging joint innovation and joint commitment to transport network ecosystem development.
Control layer: The Huawei T-SDN solution adopts an ONOS-based T-SDN super controller. It provides standard and open T-APIs to manage SDN domain controllers from different vendors, achieving coordination between different vendor transport networks. Moreover, unified modeling at the network layer implements end-to-end (E2E) route computation across mult-vendor devices, accelerating E2E service provisioning and shortening the time to market (TTM).
Huawei has also cooperated with Telefonica and Sedona Systems to demonstrate a multi-vendor multi-domain interconnection. Here, the Huawei T-SDN controller provides open northbound APIs for integration with Telefonica and Sedona Systems devices. Moreover, Huawei is providing the IP controllers and devices to Telefonica's multi-vendor interconnection synergy demonstration, proving Huawei's industry-leading comprehensive technical strength in the fixed network transport domain.
