On the 18th, Systran signed a license agreement in Beijing, with Kingsoft to provide their machine translation engine for Kingsoft's existing service "Iciba".

Through this agreement, Systran International will be providing its translation engine to "Iciba" (www.iciba.com), an online English language-learning service and dictionary service. Machine translation servicing is expected to launch in March this year or Chinese and English. Starting from these two languages, the two companies look to progressively expanding their scope of collaboration to other language pairs.

The two companies expect to go beyond the dictionary service and expand to various other services, including Kingsoft's "WPS Office", to which Systran International's translation engine can be applied.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun is the largest shareholder of Kingsoft, the Hong Kong-listed firm well known for its dictionary service "Iciba" and "WPS Office". In addition, "Iciba" is a dictionary service with over 2 million users per year, and "WPS Office" has a market share exceeding 90% for the mobile version within China. Furthermore, 50% of the monthly users of WPS Office are overseas users which points to its wide use in the global market. It has also been selected among the leading apps of 2015 in the Apple App Store.

Lucas Ji, Systran International's President who signed the contract, commented, "Through the collaboration between Kingsoft and Systran International, we hope to increase the degree of completion of existing services and accelerate the development of a new business model." And "in addition to Systran International's official entry into the Chinese market, we have not only earned the opportunity to expand sales but also the ground-breaking opportunity of developing technology related to the Chinese language."
