5 design ideas for PARK(ing) Day 2015 [PHOTOS]

WASHINGTON, Aug. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Summer is a time to enjoy the outdoors and all the beautiful parks America has to offer!  Many families find themselves road tripping around national parks or simply bringing family and friends together for barbecues.

Celebrate PARK(ing) Day 2015! Transform a parking space into a temporary mini-park, or parklet, on September 18. Share your parklet photos with the American Society of Landscape Architects using #ASLAPD. Your parklet could win a chance to be featured in Landscape Architecture Magazine!

PARK(ing) Day takes part on the third Friday of every September, when kids are back in school—which gives adults a chance to have fun and recreate their favorite park meories. Founded in 2005, PARK(ing) Day is a global, open-sourced event during which landscape architects and other designers transform metered parking spaces into temporary, miniature parks, or parklets.

Here are five landscape design ideas for you to consider when creating your parklet this upcoming Parking Day:

  1. Do yoga in the park
  2. Play board games
  3. Host live entertainment in a garden
  4. Explore your campus
  5. Design an urban space

Regardless of where you are in the world, as you prepare to create your parklet and try to conquer one of these ideas, be sure to capture the memory, snap a photo, and share it with the American Society of Landscape Architects using the hashtag #ASLAPD! Your parklet could win a chance to be featured in Landscape Architecture Magazine!
