Cognitive Networks to Demonstrate New Hybrid Broadband/Broadcast TV Capabilities for U.S. Broadcasters at NAB Show 2015
Cognitive Networks, the market-leading provider of real-time application synchronization services powered by automatic content recognition (ACR) technology, will display and demonstrate the seamless integration of broadband content with linear broadcast television - the first example of this innovation in the United States - at NAB Show 2015. The company will exhibit Monday, April 13 through Thursday April 16 at Booth #N2530D in the SPROCKIT Hub at Las Vegas Convention Center's North Hall.
Cognitive's system allows Smart TVs to become contextually aware, enabling the real-time, seamless connection of live or time-shifted over-the-air programming with services delivered via broadband. The resulting enhanced, interactive content provides an outstanding viewer experience - all accessible with a simple click of the remote.
Visitors to Cognitive Networks' booth will see StartOver, an example of hybrid broadband/broadcast TV created in collaboration with Hearst Television. StartOver intelligently links live television (in this case a local newscast) to related video streams, allowing viewers who join the program already in progress to go back to the beginning by launching a streaming session. Functionality also includes the option to select alternate and extended content: for example, the viewer might choose to watch the local weather forecast, take a look at current traffic conditions, or launch in-depth coverage of a news story.
"StartOver is a breakthrough feature and something we're very excited about," said Cognitive Networks' CEO Michael Collette. "It has the potential to dynamically transform the way people watch television by offering a broad range of rich, interactive capabilities that greatly expand individual choice. It's easy to envision where this could lead, with advanced services like contextual video-on-demand, detailed programming information, and 4k switching on the horizon. StartOver paves the way forthis next-generation of television entertainment, and is of material benefit to consumers and broadcasters alike."
Cognitive Networks' recently completed $14.5M Series B financing round is supporting the expansion of the company's ACR-enabled Smart TV footprint to 20 million active, connected TVs this year.
