Dell Helps Customers Simplify Big Data and Analytics Processing with New Appliance

ROUND ROCK, Texas --(Business Wire)--

Dell (News - Alert) today launched a new appliance designed to help customers gain valuable business insights with access to interactive analytics. The new Dell In-Memory Appliance for Cloudera Enterprise will help customers capitalize on high-performance data analysis with sophisticated analytics for interactive, iterative and near real-time analytics with new in-memory capabilities - all within the same software stack.

According to Gartner (News - Alert), "in-memory computing can deliver a new wave of business benefits from ERP and CPM investments, but hype abounds and most application strategists and IT leaders aren't clear about how this will impact their organization and their business. Benefits vary by functional domain and industry."1

The current landscape is unable to address this high memory-demand requirement since traditional systems isolate data and create silos that make exploration and collaboration difficult.

The Dell In-Memory Appliance with Cloudera Enterprise is designed for customers looking for a processing engine combined with interactive analytics in a flexible, open, preconfigured, and scalable solution. It allows customers to monitor, manage and gain insights in a short window of time, resulting in increased velocity for analytics and thus greater insights and understanding. Additionally, it simplifies the procurement, deployment, tuning and optimization of the leading-edge Apache Spark solution stack, which is integrated with Cloudera Enterprise. The Dell In-Memory Appliance with Cloudera Enterprise offers:

  • Faster time-to-insights with next generation analytics and streaming workloads, shrinking the advanced analytics cycle from weeks and days to minutes or even seconds;
  • Leading-ege enterprise data hub solution that simplifies the procurement, deployment, management, and optimization of big data projects;
  • Shorter analytics cycles which allow users to be more agile and more inventive; and
  • Flexible and open solution that scales to business needs.

Apache Spark is a fast engine for large-scale data processing that uses in-memory computing for interactive query, iterative processing, graph analysis and streaming data. The unique integration of Apache Spark on the Dell In-Memory Appliance with Cloudera Enterprise will allow customers to use a single tool for fast access to data, resulting in less development time on data modeling and query analysis, and simplified complex pipeline jobs.

The Dell In-Memory Appliance for Cloudera Enterprise is easy to use and is highly compatible with existing solutions, so organizations can deploy a Hadoop cluster in a couple of days for faster time-to-value in an appliance model. The solution is economically scalable from entry level up to 48 nodes without the need to rip and replace.

Key Quotes

"Data is created and consumed at rates never before seen, and customers across all industries are struggling to ingest, store, analyze and build insights from it. To address these needs, Dell is moving quickly to bring appliances to market that accelerate the value customers receive from their technology by simplifying the deployment and management of large-scale enterprise applications, while at the same time ensuring best-in-class performance, response times and near real-time insights to critical business data." - Sam Greenblatt, vice president of Engineered Solutions and Technology, Enterprise Solutions Group at Dell

"Building on our engineering and go-to-market partnership, Dell, together with Cloudera and Intel (News - Alert), have delivered a flexible and open solution with scale-out capabilities designed to maximize customer ROI by simplifying the procurement, deployment, tuning and optimization so customers can begin creating actionable insights out of the box instead of complex installations." - Tim Stevens, vice president, Business and Corporate Development, Cloudera

"After initial explorations of Apache Spark, we believe Spark can be a game-changing technology in chained analysis. We look forward to testing the new Dell In-Memory Appliance for Cloudera Enterprise in a real-world case study. We will focus on assessing the value of the appliance as we undergo technical viability studies of Spark and Spark Streaming. Our initial investigation will include testing the viability of higher memory density machines when running several memory consuming applications simultaneously. We look forward to deepening the success of the Dell, Cloudera, Intel and Omneo solutions as we move forward with this initial project." - Rami Lokas, director of research, Omneo
