Intel poaches Qualcomm exec as part of mobile push [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)](ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Chip specialist Intel Corp has lured a senior executive away from Qualcomm Inc in a bid to shore up its foray into mobile and Internet-enabled hardware, Reuters reported. In a rare move for Intel, the company hired a senior manager from a competitor. Amir Faintuch was previously president of Qualcomm Atheros, overseeing networking and connectivity units. He will join Intel as senior vice president and co-general manager of the Platform Engineering Group, Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy said on Friday. "We want to accelerate our success rate with SoCs [system-on-a-chip] and get the designs aligned and the roadmaps aligned to do that," Mulloy said. "We've made good progress but there's more to be done. Amir has extensive management experience and a strong resume." The worldwide slump in PC sales has eaten into Intel's bottom line and forced a rethink by CEO Brian Krzanich as to how to capitalise on the runaway demand for mobile components. In May, the company made a deal with Chinese SoC specialist Rockchip to make chips for budget Android tablets. (c) 2014 ITP Business Publishing Ltd. All Rights Reserved.
