Azhar remains MRT Corp CEO until probe ends [Business Times (Malaysia)]

(Business Times (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KUALA LUMPUR: The board of directors of Mass Rapid Transit Corp (MRT Corp) said it will only consider the resignation of chief executive officer Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid after the investigation into last week's fatal accident at the Kota Damansara MRT site, here, is completed and made public.

The board said Azhar would continue helming the corporation as the Klang Valley MRT project had made good progress under him.

"The board has evaluated his performance since he was appointed in September 2011 and found that MRT Corp is heading in the right direction. The Klang Valley MRT project is progressing well and is 50 per cent completed, which is ahead of schedule.

"The financial management of the project is also commendable," it said in a statement.

The board also promised to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the accident, as instructed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Meanwhile, MMC-Gamuda Bhd, the project delivery partner (PDP) for the Klang Valley MRT (Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line), has announced the resignations of key staff who worked on the MRT project.

Project director for PDP (SBK Line) Ian Thoms has decided not to seek a contract extension. Three senior personnel of PDP have also resigned and they are project manager (package V1) Ismail Hassan, senior resident engineer (package V1) of supervision consultant, AECOM, David Douglas and resident engineer (package V1) of supervision consultant, AECOM, Norrizan Ismail.
