Pennsylvania American Water President Delivers Keynote to Young Entrepreneurs at PA Free Enterprise Week

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --(Business Wire)--

Pennsylvania American Water President Kathy L. Pape shared business philosophy and path to success for approximately 400 young people attending Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW) at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. Pape delivered the keynote on Monday evening as PFEW kicked off an intensive weeklong program that offers high school students hands-on education about the American free enterprise system.

In its 36th year, PFEW brings students together with business people who volunteer to serve as "company advisors" and help the young people learn what it takes to be successful in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. The students create companies that simulate the actual operation of their own business for the equivalent of three years.

Pape's keynote focused on definin success and setting goals, taking risks and staying engaged with company stakeholders. "Most important," she advised, "always stay close to and listen to the customer, and be sure to support those employees who are closest to the customer."

Pape was named senior vice president of American Water's Mid-Atlantic Division in October 2011, to lead the company's subsidiaries in Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia, along with Pennsylvania. She has more than 35 years' experience in the utility industry and is a nationally recognized expert on the water and wastewater industries. She also serves as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Business Council.
