New wireless broadband service launched in city ; HULL: Alternative option 'great news for businesses and residents' [Hull Daily Mail (England)]

(Hull Daily Mail (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) InShort A new wireless broadband service has been launched in Hull.

THE launch of a new wireless broadband service in the city has been welcomed.

Businesses and residents across the city will now have a choice when it comes to getting connected after EE, one of the UK's largest mobile phone operators, launched a new wireless broadband service in Hull.

Hull East MP Karl Turner said: "The arrival in Hull of an alternative broadband option from EE is great news for residents and businesses in the city.

"The new service offers choice for the first time - competition is the way to give local people access to better, faster inter net." 4G from EE has the speeds and capacity to be used as an alternative to fixed-line broadband, and has both pay monthly and pay as you go options, with no need for a monthly line rental fee. An EE spokesman said: "Customers can take advantage of the new 4G technology to get faster speeds in their homes and offices, at competitive prices." People in the city can visit EE's pop-up shops at St Stephen's shopping centre and Queen Victoria Square today for a chance to win 24 months of free broadband with EE's alternative broadband service. Allan McGhee, propositions manager for EE, said: "Over the past year, we have been working on a new proposition that enables customers to have different options for their internet broadband." Mr McGhee explained how feedback from people in the city showed they had three main concerns when it come to connecting to the internet.

He said: "Firstly, there has been a lack of competition.

"Secondly, people have had a problem with the speed of connection. They are getting fed up of being stuck in the past and waiting ages to get online.

"Thirdly, is the fact that people have needed to keep a landline phone in order to connect to the internet.

"This is now no longer the case and we hope the people of Hull come down and speak to our representatives at the pop-up shops this weekend." Independent testing by RootMetrics recently found that EE is the fastest and most reliable network in Hull.

Mr McGhee said: "A lot of people still don't believe it when we tell them they now have an alternative to connecting to the internet with us.

"We want people to come along this weekend and test the services on offer." Visit for more information about the services available in Hull.
