VSL's Scott Beck Takes Over as DMAI Board Chairman(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 1 -- Visit Salt Lake issued the following news release: Visit Salt Lake's Scott Beck began his term of service as board chair of the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) 2014-15 board of directors at the global trade association's 100th anniversary meeting held in Las Vegas last week. With a full century of experience serving domestic and international destination marketing organizations (DMOs) - including more than 600 DMOs in 16 countries - DMAI is one of the most successful and respected trade associations worldwide. "Serving as chair of DMAI provides me an opportunity to give back to an industry and the people within it who have given me so much," said Beck, president and CEO of Visit Salt Lake. "Yes, it means more meetings, but it also means more chances to learn from these incredible professionals. "Being chair at this time is particularly special, as DMO's are more relevant than ever. Our centennial this year proves that, but we must look for opportunities to enhance that relevance and provide additional value for our destinations." Beck has been a member of DMAI since 2005, the same year he was selected to lead Visit Salt Lake (VSL). During his tenure with VSL, Beck has been named CEO of the Year by Utah Business Magazine, successfully renegotiated and secured the annual Outdoor Retailer summer and winter tradeshows, and led the rebranding of the Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau into today's more relevant Visit Salt Lake, years before it became the norm among DMOs. Following Detroit's lead to promote its city as a convention destination in 1895, the International Association of Convention Bureaus (IACB) formed in the early 1900s. IACB added "Visitors" to its moniker in the 1970s, becoming IACVB, and in 2005, to reflect the global nature of its members' role in their local community, the organization became DMAI. "I believe the sustained success of DMAI is a tribute to the remarkable leadership and unique level of collaboration within our industry," said Michael Gehrisch, president and CEO of DMAI.
