New AAP Study Cites Unsafe Sleep Environment as Greatest Risk to Infant; HALO® Bassinest™ Swivel Sleeper Keeps Baby Close and in His Own Safe Sleep Space

MINNETONKA, Minn. --(Business Wire)--

New mothers are sleep deprived. In an effort to get more sleep, they often resort to bringing their babies to bed with them despite warnings by doctors and safe sleep experts that bed sharing can be dangerous for the infant. These warnings are confirmed by a new study released this month by Pediatrics, the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, which concluded that bed sharing is the greatest risk for babies ages four months and younger. In fact, among the more than 8000 infant deaths analyzed over an eight year period, the study found that roughly 70% of infants were bed sharing at the time of their death.

Further compounding the problem is the advice to new parents to keep baby close for bonding, easier breastfeeding and better sleep. What is a parent to do?

The new HALO™ Bassinest™ Swivel Sleeper (www.halobassinest.com) is a breakthrough in the bassinet category as it allows baby to sleep as close as mom wants - closer than with any other bassinet, even right next to her in bed. Yet baby sleeps safely in his own separate sleep area, thereby reducing the risks that are associated with bed-sharing. According to Susan Hollander, co-founder and president of the CJ Foundation hich helped to fund the new AAP study, "The Halo Bassinest is the best of both worlds as parents feel secure having baby close at hand and confident that they have provided baby with his own safe sleep space. We truly hope this will discourage co-sleeping and help to reduce the number of these needless infant deaths."

The unique design of the HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper provides not only a safe sleep space for baby, but also easier, more convenient sleep for mom. The dual-swivel motion allows it to rotate a full 360 degrees from two different pivot points: the first swivels elliptically, allowing the Bassinest to be pulled into the bed next to mom, and the second rotates circularly, allowing it to swing like a door therefore making it more comfortable for her to get in and out of bed. (This is particularly important to the one-third of new moms who have a C-section birth and have a longer, more painful recovery.) The Bassinest features mesh walls for maximum visibility and breathability making baby visible at mom's eye level, allowing mom to reach in and soothe baby quickly. Its swivel design and patented retractable wall also help mom tend to baby's needs while still in bed for greater convenience and comfort, as well as better, more restful sleep.

The Bassinest Swivel Sleeper can also help support nursing moms particularly during the nighttime. Those who have tested the product find nighttime feedings more convenient as baby can be easily lifted to the breast without getting out of bed. The Bassinest also comes with a unique nursing timer which will alert mom when it's time to switch sides or return baby to his sleep space - which can also be done without leaving the bed. Other features include a nightlight, soothing nature and womb sounds, music and gentle vibration.

The contemporary design has universal appeal to complement virtually any room décor, and the tip-proof base provides height adjustability to fit beds 24"-34" high. Designed for babies from birth to 30 pounds or five months of age, the Halo Bassinest meets or exceeds all CPSC and Health Canada guidelines and standards for bassinets. The sides are made from stain-resistant 100% polyester material that easily wipe clean with a damp cloth, while the removable, coordinating fitted sheet is machine washable. The new Bassinest Swivel Sleeper is JPMA-certified and was awarded the top JPMA Innovation Award for 2013. (Suggested retail price: $249.99)
