CEA Congratulates Robert Holleyman on Nomination to Serve as Deputy USTR

ARLINGTON, Va. --(Business Wire)--

The following statement can be attributed to Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® president and CEO Gary Shapiro (News - Alert) regarding President Obama's nomination of Robert Holleyman to serve as Deputy U.S. Trade Representative (USTR):

"We congratulate Mr. Holleyman on his nomination. Upon his confirmation, we look forward to working with him to create strong trade agreements that create jobs and promote innovation.

"Specifically, we will work with Mr. Holleyman to craft agreements exclusive of harmful intermediary liability language and excessive copyright restrictions. We believe that intellectual property provisions of agreements should not exceed U.S. law and must recognize that fair use is a key building block of innovation. More, this protection should be incorporated into a Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) bill which will enable the President and USTR to pass critical trade agreements more swiftly.

"Likewise, CEA looks forward to working with Mr. Holleyman on a successful conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, the Trade In Services Agreement (TISA), and te Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) agreement. Securing these agreements will help expand existing and open new markets to American exporters."
