Cabarrus Leads North Carolina in Digital Survey Ranking(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CONCORD, N.C., July 11 -- Cabarrus County issued the following news release: On Thursday, the Center for Digital Government (CDG) and the National Association of Counties (NACo) released the 2014 Digital Counties Survey winners. The award recognizes leading examples of counties using technology to improve services and boost efficiencies. Cabarrus County earned its highest ranking on the survey and outranked all other counties in North Carolina by placing 2nd in its population category, 150,000-249,999. Cabarrus previously ranked 8th among its population size in both 2012 and 2013. Highlights of Cabarrus County's digital accomplishments include: * Using technology for transparency and citizen engagement - Delivering information to residents through social media, E-newsletters, emergency notification systems, RSS feeds and E-Government Online Services; developing a website homepage that gives visitors easy access to news releases, public meetings, hot topics, programs and events and County initiatives; and hosting a Laserfische WebLink, which provides the public access to the County's document archive of meeting agendas and minutes, campaign finance reports, annual budgets and audits. * Enterprise applications and shared services - Using the Laserfiche Enterprise Content Management System to fulfill business requirements across the entire organization. * Operations and data accomplishment - Using technical collaboration and managed services to efficiently deploy and support technology in Kannapolis City Schools (KCS). This included placing the KCS server in the County's datacenter to improve reliability, server redundancy and disaster recovery. Cabarrus County Information Technology Services (ITS) supports internal and external users by promoting enterprise information processes, providing access to information resources and protecting information integrity. Recent developments in process efficiencies range from improved public safety and transportation dispatch using the AVL system, to improved online services using the No Wrong Door Application at the Department of Human Services. The County also achieves cost avoidance through multi-jurisdictional partnerships, the sharing of datacenter infrastructure with school systems and virtualization to extend hardware life. "Cabarrus County ITS has progressively pursued innovative programs and partnerships. The increased use of technology has allowed us to be more transparent, do more with less and improve service delivery," said Debbie Brannan, director of Cabarrus County ITS. "I am extremely honored that we are recognized as a top digital county in the nation. We're here because of the dedication of our staff, support of our County leaders, and the willingness of County departments to embrace technology as a way to reduce costs and improve delivery of service to our customers and citizens."
