Egypt to end fixed line monopoly [CommsMEA (United Arab Emirates)]

(CommsMEA (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Telecommunications minister of Egypt, Atef Helmy, announced that the country is ready for the unified licence for mobile and landline telecommunications. The activation date was June 30th but there was no implementation declared.

"We are in the last stage to complete the details relating to the unified licence and the steps to create the unified entity," said Helmy to Reuters in a text message.

The license will end Egypt's fixed line monopoly with Telecom Egypt, as all operators will be able to offer mobile and fixed services.

Vodafone Egypt, Mobinil and Etisalat Egypt are the three mobile services providers in the country.

In May, Telecom Egypt agreed to pay 2.5 billion Egyptian pounds ($350 million) for a mobile licence.  (c) 2014 ITP Business Publishing Ltd. All Rights Reserved. Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (Syndigate.info).
