(India Today Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Smart Wi-Fi: Gateway to a progressive, smarter education system In India ; Seamless access to email and other avenues of learning can change the way students go about their academic pursuits.

India is the third biggest country in terms of Internet users in the world, with a highly social and mobile audience. With an estimated 121 million Indians logged onto the Internet and increasing number of Internet enabled devices, Wi-Fi availability is becoming imperative due to the relative scarcity of available licensed spectrum in India. The Wi-Fi equipment market is expected to grow in the high double-digit percents annually at least through 2016, when it will cross $2 billion. Universities are using technology to invigorate their academic and administrative processes.

Wireless connectivity is no longer just a"nice-to-have" resource at K-12 schools and colleges. It is indispensable in modern educational institutions, especially as Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) strategies and technology-based lesson plans are increasingly integrated into teaching and learning. Teachers spend hours preparing lessons and must maximize every minute of classroom time to cover course material. They simply cannot risk adopting tools and pedagogy that depend on their Wi-Fi network unless they can be sure it will perform predictably and reliably when needed.

Wi-Fi serves a very important role of linking faculty with students, as well as with one another. Seamless access to email, and other avenues of learning, can dramatically change the way students go about their academic pursuits. Wi-Fi is also easy for the administration to manage as they have to manage only one Access Point (AP) per classroom. However, consumer-grade and even many enterprise-grade Wi-Fi systems are no longer adequate in this era of user-device-and data-dense learning environments. Reliable, high capacity and fast Wi-Fi is quickly becoming a crucial component of this modern network infrastructure in the day-to-day operation of school districts, college campuses and university systems. K-12 schools, and colleges and universities need reliable Wi-Fi that offers strong security, excellent coverage, and reliable connections that do not drop. But for many educational institutions, tighter budgets and busy IT staffs make the transition difficult. Thus, schools too need a cost-effective wireless infrastructure to achieve their Wi-Fi goals.

For our part, Ruckus has deployed its Wi-Fi technology at key universities across the country, such as Delhi University, BITS Pilani, Thapar University, DAV University, Chandigarh University, NIT Agartala and NIIT University, VIT Vellore & Chennai, Christ College Bangalore, Lovely Professional University, and ABESEC, to name a few. With Smart Wi-Fi deployments like these, we look forward to making a progressive, smarter education system in India a reality.
