Orange Polska to get 900 MHz frequency reservation for EUR 86mn [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports]

(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) has assigned 908.1-914.9 MHz and 953.1-959.9 MHz frequency blocks in the 900 MHz band to Orange Polska - the country's landline telecom incumbent and owner of one of the three biggest mobile operators in Poland (Orange). The fee has been set at PLN 358.1mn (EUR 86mn) and will be paid within 14 days.

The assignment is for a further 15 years (to Jul 6, 2029), is valid in the whole country and is technology-neutral. The requirement is to cover 90% of Poland's territory with telecommunication services provided using these frequencies. However, in the case of Orange Polska, such coverage was already over 99.5% as of the end of March of 2014, the operator stressed.

Orange Polska uses the 900 MHz band to provide 2G services as well as data and voice services based on the 3G technology (UMTS 900). Orange stresses that it is the first mobile operator to pay a fee for frequency assignment for another period under the amended Telecommunication Law.
