State College woman charged with credit card fraud [Centre Daily Times (State College, Pa.) :: ]

(Centre Daily Times (State College, PA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 03--A State College woman is in Centre County Correctional Facility, charged with thousands of dollars in credit card fraud.

State College police said Younsu Park, 30, stole credit card information from a friend.

Jailei Jiang first reported fraudulent charges on her PNC Bank card in April. The account was closed and a new card issued, but it wasn't long before new unauthorized charges showed up, police said. The charges were online, mostly to Amazon.com and Best Buy.

When she confronted Park, Jiang said, her friend also admitted to using another card, a Chinese Visa, to buy $900 in Best Buy gift cards. Park returned those, negating that loss, but Jiang said Park refused to pay her back the $3,403.38 in charges to her PNC card.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Park said she thought the loss would be suffered by the bank and that Jiang would not be held accountable.

In meeting with police, Park admitted to the Visa purchases, which had been reimbursed, but initially denied using the PNC Bank card. She later admitted to using the card, but said she and Jiang thought the bank would cover the loss. Jiang denied that allegation and said she never gave Park permission to use either her name or her cards.

Park is charged with one count of access device fraud and one count of identity theft, both felonies. Bail was set at $5,000 straight.
