Ethical hacking has its own perks [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]


(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Bangalore: City engineering graduate has bagged a full scholarship in one of the UK's largest universities, Sheffield Hallam University for winning an ethical computer hacking competition.



On Thursday, Aditya Damodaran, a BTech graduate from Christ University, was announced as the winner of its 'Capture the Hacker', an ethical computer hacking competition that was launched sometime in March 2014, held in Bangalore and Delhi. Damodaran will be awarded with a full scholarship for MSc Information Systems Security course at the university campus in the UK in the September session.

An excited 22-year old Damodaran, said, "I felt elated to hear that my application for the competition was successful. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about a branch of computer science that I find very interesting. I had attended one of the series of workshops and lectures held which demonstrated the skills required to become an ethical computer hacker." Following the workshop, Aditya entered the ethical computer hacking competition that was conducted in two sessions and involved analysing a series of data streams to identify any security breaches - an imitation of how computer security experts work to protect systems from computer hackers.


The masters course in Information Systems Security at Sheffield Hallam University comprises of modules on information security management, ethical hacking, system hardening and computer forensics.

Neil Richardson, Course Leader, MSc Information Systems Security, Sheffield Hallam University, said, "There are increasing opportunities for students to seek career in the field of cyber security and ethical hacking. In the UK market alone, cyber security is estimated to be worth almost £2.8 billion. Although the university had set a difficult task in the competition and the Aditya had performed extremely well."'
