People in business news [Montgomery Advertiser, Ala. :: ](Montgomery Advertiser (AL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) June 24--Crosswhite to lead EDPA board Mark Crosswhite, chairman, president and CEO of Alabama Power Co., has been elected chairman of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama's Board of Directors. "I'm honored to chair EDPA's board," Crosswhite said. "The leadership of EDPA shares a strong commitment to build on Alabama's economic development success. "Through EDPA, the business community in Alabama strives to be a catalyst for economic growth. We are working every day to attract companies to the state and find ways to collaborate on issues important to job retention and creation." A private, non-profit organization, EDPA represents the private sector's contributions to economic development and partners with the state and local governments, as well as nonprofit organizations and associations involved in Alabama's economic development efforts. The Partnership has been a key player in recruiting companies such as Mercedes-Benz, Boeing, Honda, Thyssenkrupp, Hyundai and Airbus to Alabama. Crosswhite became Alabama Power's chief executive on March 1, succeeding Charles McCrary who retired after nearly 13 years in that role. Before taking the helm at Alabama Power, Crosswhite served as executive vice president and chief operating officer for Southern Company, Alabama Power's parent company. Attorneys group elects officers The Alabama Association for Justice recently elected its new slate of officers, including Frank Woodson of Beasley Allen in Montgomery. The ALAJ is a plaintiffs' attorneys association representing consumers and businesses seeking redress through the courts. "Justice knows no political philosophy or party, and I look forward to advancing the cause of justice in our courtrooms, in our statehouse, and in our communities," said Mike Ermert, newly elected President of the ALAJ. "I do not take this leadership opportunity lightly, and my main goal for this year is to protect the 7th Amendment right of every Alabama citizen." Association honors pharmacists The Alabama Pharmacy Association installed new officers and presented its annual awards this month at its annual convention in Point Clear. At the event, Mike Mikell of Millbrook received the Bowl of Hygeia Award for outstanding civic leadership in his community. Heather Vega of Montgomery received the Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award. The group's trustees include Kelli Newman of Montgomery. The Alabama Pharmacy Association is a nonprofit, professional organization with over 2,300 members statewide.
