Budget on city council agenda ; County to consider filling three vacant positions at Monday's meeting [Topeka Capital Journal (KS)](Topeka Capital Journal (KS) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Local governing bodies plan this coming week to discuss the proposed 2015 city budget and consider filling three vacant Shawnee County jobs. The Shawnee County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday in its chambers in Room B-11 of the county courthouse at 200 S.E. 7th, where commissioners plan to: - Hear an update on county expenditures and revenues from financial administrator Betty Greiner. - Consider placing street lights at S.E. 45th and California, where the county plans to build a two-lane roundabout this year. - Consider entering into an annual information technology service agreement through which the county would pay $4,999.20 to Eagle Software Inc. - Consider filling two vacant park maintenance worker's positions at an annual cost of $36,838 each, including salary and benefits. - Consider filling a vacant road maintenance worker's position at an annual cost of $32,604, including salary and benefits. - Consider increasing the budget to $819,704 from $680,800 for a project to replace a bridge over Mission Creek on S.W. Docking Road, about one-half mile south of K-4 highway. The county would increase the budget to reflect changes in project design that must be made to comply with permitting requirements mandated by state and federal officials. The project still will be financed completely using revenue from a countywide, half-cent sales tax. The Topeka City Council will meet as its budget committee of the whole at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Classroom A at the Law Enforcement Center, 320 S. Kansas Ave. Council members will continue discussing city manager Jim Colson's proposed 2015 city budget, which would keep the property tax mill levy at its current level. The council is meeting as its budget committee as part of a process in which it discusses the city manager's proposed budget and takes nonbinding votes to craft a committee report containing proposed changes to the budget. The city's governing body, consisting of the council and mayor, subsequently will vote to adopt or reject those changes, then to adopt the next year's budget. Tuesday's meeting will be this year's sixth for the budget committee, which held three public hearings May 27 and 28 and met June 14 and 16 to discuss the proposed budget's general fund. The committee hasn't yet made any changes to the proposed budget. Committee members plan Tuesday to: - Wrap up discussion of the proposed general fund budget. - Discuss the change the city's making this year to cash-based budgeting. - Discuss the health fund budget. - Discuss enterprise fund budgets for water, stormwater and wastewater purposes. - Discuss the special highway/motor fuels fund budget and other funds needing discussion.
