Comporium Techs Grab Top Overall Medals in Cable Games(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 13 June 2014 Release date- 10062014 - ROCK HILL, S.C. - Comporium dominated the recent Cable Tech Games and Vendor Day event held recently by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and hopes to send three of its technicians to the International Cable Tech Games in September. Out of the total of 48 competitive events sponsored by two of the SCTE's Chapters, Piedmont and Crystal Coast, Comporium locked down all but 10 places. Greg Brakefield, the 2013 defending champion, automatically qualifies to represent Comporium at the International Games in Denver, Col. Comporium colleagues Justin Sanders and Matt McNinch are seeing if they will also earn spots for the big event. Sanders won the Piedmont Chapter and McNinch took first place in the Crystal Coast Chapter. The SCTE is the premier organization for technical cable telecommunications professionals, and it will notify Sanders and McNinch in August if they will advance. 'This is a major accomplishment for the technicians involved and positions Comporium as the leader in the industry for quality, craftsmanship, and technical expertise,' said Matthew Dosch, executive vice president of customer operations and external affairs. 'We are proud of Greg for being a two-time defending international champion; obviously, he has inspired Justin and Matt, and we hope they get a chance to compete along with Greg at the SCTE's big competition.' There are seven events that make up the cable games and include the following to test knowledge, craftsmanship, and speed: cable splicing, optical cable splicing, meter reading, drop connection, MTDR (metallic time domain reflectometer), OTDR (optical time domain reflectometer) and cable 'Jeopardy.' The events are an excellent test of a technicians proficiency at tasks performed daily on the job. All events are timed and graded for quality. The combined overall scores are calculated and the top three contestants are awarded overall medals.
