SynerMed Groups Rank Among Top Physician Groups for Patient Care Nationwide

LOS ANGELES --(Business Wire)--

SynerMed, Inc. groups achieve California Association of Physician Groups (CAPG) Standards of Excellence (SOE) rating again. The survey began eight years ago as a way to help healthcare purchasers and patients evaluate healthcare systems and now serves as a blueprint for excellence. Survey scores measure the structure and how well-equipped medical groups are delivering better patient experience, affordable care and managing population health.

"SynerMed is committed to innovating healthcare by providing advanced technology and integrated delivery solutions that help our clients provide accountable and value-based care," said SynerMed President and CEO James Mason. "We congratulate all of our medical groups that demonstrate excellence in patient care as marked by CAPG's (SOE) during a transformative time in healthcare."

The Standards of Excellence survey promotes transparency among healthcare organizations and raises the bar for quality. The critical self-assessment survey is voluntary for CAPG members, which includes 180 medical groups throughout California and 29 other states.

SynerMed's EHS Medical Group achieved CAPG's highest level Four-Star "Elite" Status Award among 45 physician organizations, in addition to expanded requirements this year.

"Medi-Cal is typically regarded as low quality healthcare but SynerMed's mission is to provide the best care at the best value for patients," said Peter Winston, SynerMed and EHS Medical Group Executive Vice President. "EHS is the only 'Elite' group that predominantly caters to California's safety net, which includes economically disadvantaged and underserved populations like Medi-Cal."

Other SynerMed groups including Angeles IPA, MultiCultural IPA and Crown City Medical Group achieved star ratings for Health Information Technology, Accountability/Transparency and Patient Centered Care.

Eighty six medical groups participated in the assessment and coordinate care for 11.1 million people (90% of HMO covered lives). These same medical groups provide care for an additional estimated five million people with Medi-Cal, Medicare and PPO coverage.

SOE domains of coordinated care:

  1. Care Management-Clinical system supports for quality and efficiency on a population scale.
  2. Health Information Technology-Funnel for accurate, actionable information to support clinical decisions and coordinate team care.
  3. Accountability and Transparency-Response to the public demand for objective information regarding performance, patient service, and regulatory compliance.
  4. Patient Centered Care-Critical components of access, convenience, cultural responsiveness and customized individual care.
  5. Group Support for Advanced Primary Care...to make the "Patient-Centered Medical Home" a system-wide functionality and to revitalize the discipline of primary care.
  6. Administrative and Financial Capability...to manage how physician groups are responding to the financial challenges of healthcare reform.
