NETCENTS, SEWP Partner Ace Computers Announces Major Navy HPC Cluster Build

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CHICAGO, Ill. (PRWEB) June 11, 2014 NETCENTS, SEWP partner Ace Computers, one of the leading custom computer builders and resellers in the U.S., just announced that it completed a major HPC cluster for the U.S. Navy. The cluster included 320 cores/640GB memory (compute nodes) with an FDR Infiniband topology.

The order was issued directly by the U.S. Navy to Ace Computers. Dan Gore, the primary contractor involved with the project said, "I was very happy for many reasons, but one was definitely the quality of the equipment. They didn't try to cheap out on anything. For example, they used Supermicro motherboards and a Mellanox InfiniBand communications backbone. The software (Bright clustering technology) is very well-designed to deploy and integrate into an HPC cluster. It is a common piece of software for higher end clusters, but they included that in the price." Ace Computers' Vice President of Technology Solutions, Marc Fertik, and Director of Technology, Dan Arendt, worked closely with Gore from the beginning. "Dan Gore has a lot of experience with clusters and he knew what he wanted," Arendt said. "He had, what other companies would consider, high expectations regarding performance, compatibility, expandability, parts quality and price. But that's the way we build custom technology for all of our clients." John Samborski, Ace Computers' CEO said that this is one of many orders the company has successfully fulfilled for the U.S. Dept. of Defense, but it was especially important. "We were awarded a NET CENTS 2 contract a few months ago and are getting some significant orders," he said. "Every order that we fill for the DOD and its affiliates adds to the confidence our clients place in us." Gore has over 15 years' experience ordering HPC components for his clients. He said that in the past he has had issues with some companies going out of business and others who didn't integrate the technology into legacy equipment very well. "When I saw the level of expertise that Ace brought in, I was very happy," he said. "We plan to expand the system and the way they designed and installed it will be very easy for us to do that." He continued, ""But again, the biggest thing for me was having good quality components that are not specifically proprietary. The components Ace Computers uses are very easy to integrate. I can always specify what I need. With other companies, when they obsolete something you are stuck. With Ace, I know the parts will be available in the future. They have my wholehearted recommendation." Acknowledged as the best custom technology manufacturer, Ace Computers is a Woman-Owned Small Business custom technology systems manufacturer and reseller for the public sector as well as the commercial sector.
