(India Today Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Winner twice over-BCA ; Last year, Christ University's department of computer applications saw a significant increase in industry-student interactions. Google, Firefox, Wikipedia, Tata Consultancy Services and Microsoft were just some of the tech majors that visited the campus to recruit as well as train students.

For Priyanka Pradhan, 21, getting the chance to meet her idol Amitabh Bachchan at a college event was just one of the highlights of her experience at Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research (SICSR). From cyber security workshops to training at the campus Google student club, fun 'hackathon' themed parties and 'Admob' challenges, her three-year BCA course was a dream come true.

"There's a popular misconception that computer science is only about coding and programme writing. Today the stream offers so much more. There are exciting new specialisations such as security intelligence, disaster management, business communication and database management. Students can even opt to pursue unique modules on music in media, social ethics in computing, human-computer interactions and new age cloud computing.

Computers have an increasing relevance in our lives, making this a lucrative stream of study," explains Lalit Kathpalia, director, SICSR. Whether it is workshops conducted by technology majors such as IBM, Infosys, Microsoft and Accenture at Madras Christian College, Chennai or exchange programmes with Melbourne University, Manitoba University and University of New Brunswick at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, computer science students have plenty of learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.

The INDIA TODAY-Nielsen Best Colleges Survey's BCA rankings introduces three new entries to the top 10 list this year. SICSR, BIT, Mesra and Presidency College, Bangalore have been ranked at five, six and seven respectively for the first time. Christ University tops the list for the third year in a row while the Department of Computer Applications at SRM University in Chennai has gone up three positions to number two.
