I-G Wants Professionals for Police Accounts Department

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, on Friday directed that the Finance and Accounts Department of the force to be manned by staff with requisite qualifications.

Abubakar gave the directive in Abuja at a one-day meeting with police finance and accounting officers across the country.

He said there was need to professionalise the accounting department of the force following recent "self-accounting" status granted the force by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Abubakar described the approval as a "watershed" in the more than eight decades the police force was established.

He stressed that officers with requisite accounting background were needed to work with tested civilians that would be deployed to police to promote professionalism and guarantee effective service delivery.

He said the Accountant-General of the Federation had deployed two directors for finance and accounts, and audit, to assist the force to ensure seamless take off the new status.

Abubakar called on the officers to adhere strictly to financial regulations and warned that any one found wanting would be sanctioned. (NAN) Copyright Daily Independent. Distributed by AllAfrica Global Media (allAfrica.com).
