Paris board to look into sharing recreation director with Oxford [Sun Journal, Lewiston, Maine :: ]

(Sun Journal (Lewiston, ME) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) May 29--PARIS -- Town Manager Amy Bernard said Wednesday afternoon that the town of Paris will reach out to Oxford officials about the possibility of sharing a paid recreation director.

Bernard said Paris does not have a recreation director.

"The Recreation Committee said that they really need someone in a paid position to oversee their programs," Bernard said. "The committee wants to expand some of their programs, but it's really difficult for a volunteer group to do. By creating a paid position, it may be a little easier." Oxford does not have a recreation director, Oxford Town Clerk Ellen Morrison said, adding the Recreation Committee elects a chairman.

In other business, Bernard also said the Maine Department of Transportation has preliminarily approved the design and entrance to the Moore Park gravel parking lot.

"They've given us the preliminary go-ahead, and as of right now, we've filled out and sent in the permit application to MDOT," Bernard said. "Now, we need to wait until the town meeting has come and gone and see if the money we've budgeted for that project is approved." The Moore Park parking lot will be in the same spot but "will be a little more defined," Bernard said.

"We have plans for a 40-foot entrance, and the parking lot will be able to house somewhere between eight and 12 cars," Bernard said.
