Azerbaijan`s further steps in satellite communications depend on cooperation with France
(Trend News Agency (Azerbaijan) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Baku, Azerbaijan, May 16 By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend: The cooperation between Azerbaijan and France in the field of satellite communications will determine the next steps taken by Azerbaijan in this field.
The Deputy Minister of Communications and High Technologies Iltimas Mamedov made the remarks at a scientific conference dedicated to the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day held at the Institute of Information Technology of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
Mammadov said that the documents on the cooperation in the field of satellite communications and space industry have been signed during French President Francois Hollande`s visit to Azerbaijan.
The main directions of cooperation between Azerbaijan and France are specified in the Memorandum of Understanding signed between EADS-Astrium and "Azerkosmos" JSC One of the points of cooperation is the realization of satellite resources.
"EADS-Astrium" company also offered services on education of Azerbaijani specialists in the field of satellite management.
Azerbaijan's first telecommunications satellite "Azerspace/Africasat-1a" was delivered into orbit in February 2013 with the Ariane 5 ECA launcher of French "Arianespace" company. One of the "Arianespace" shareholders is "EADS-Astrium".
EADS-Astrium also participates in the "Azerkosmos" JSC`s tender on the construction of the low-orbit satellite for Azerbaijan.
The tender involves six companies. The company's offer under consideration and evaluation. The winner of the tender will be announced soon. The construction of the satellite will take 30 months.
