BRIEF: Cary OKs fiber 'huts' for Google Fiber service [The Cary News (Cary, N.C.) :: ]

(Cary News (NC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) May 09--CARY -- The Town Council on Thursday approved an agreement with Google to set up "huts" for high-speed Internet service in town.

Cary is expected to get five to seven huts, each one serving about 20,000 homes, said Bill Stice, Cary's director of technology services. The structures will be 30 feet by 10 feet, he said.

The Triangle is one of nine metropolitan areas eyed for Google Fiber, which offers residential customers 1 gigabit-per-second Internet -- nearly 100 times faster than most broadband connections in the United States.

AT&T also hopes to bring ultrafast Internet to Cary.
